Liked:
- I’m probably in the minority here, but I didn’t mind the new Q. It stands to reason that the replacement would be a younger, geek-type, so I’m not sure why people are complaining about the guy’s age. There’s always a newer generation coming up, right?
- I usually hate when a film’s credits go on for so long at the beginning, but Adele’s theme song made this easy to bear. She deserved that Oscar (and I’m not even a fan!).
- Even though this installment felt a lot different than previous entries, there were enough signature Bond moments to somewhat satisfy this casual fan.
Disliked:
- Shallow, I know, but I couldn’t stand the stubble Bond sported for the first quarter of the film. He’s supposed to be a smooth, suave spy and I hate when he doesn’t look the part (for whatever reason).
- Javier Bardem is just one of those actors that rubs me the wrong way. I found him tolerable in Vicky Christina Barcelona, but haven’t liked any of his other films (not even No Country for Old Men). Skyfall was no different. I hated practically every scene he was in.
- I’m sad to see Judi Dench leave her role as M, but I guess that was to be expected since she’s getting up there in age. Couldn’t they find another woman instead of handing the reigns over to Ralph Fiennes?
- There weren’t a whole lot of “fun” moments in this film. Bond is supposed to be cheesy and over the top in (many) places, but it seemed as though the filmmakers were trying to take things seriously here.
Rating:
Considering all the hype, I’d have to say Skyfall was a fairly underwhelming film. I expected more out of Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig, and could have done with a lot less Javier Bardem. This is one Bond movie I never plan on seeing again. I give just 2 stars out of 5.
